  Continuing Professional Development Statement

All health care professionals, including physiotherapists, are facing increasing demands to deliver competent and best practice
strategies to patients. Continuing professional development (CPD) is considered to be one of the key approaches that can help
provide solutions to achieving this. CPD has been defined in multiple ways but as related to health care it is "a process through
which individuals undertake continuous learning, through a broad range of activities, that maintains, develops and enhances
skills and knowledge in order to improve performance in clinical practice". In broader terms it is also linked to facilitating
improved patient outcomes and improving the health of a population. Reinforcing the universal use of the concept of continuous
improvement for improved outcomes The Australian Physiotherapy Association implements a framework of CPD as part of
  its membership requirements.

Within Platinum Physiotherapy to enhance the practises professional growth and to improve and ensure the delivery of
consistent best practice, evidence based services, we wish to cultivate an environment of sustained directed learning and
develop a structured organisational CPD programme that will work in partnership with individual learning and support
  APA requirements.

Addressing our practise specific needs involves understanding the patient population served and the predominate
presenting conditions, reviewing the requirements of the varying roles within the team and gaining a comprehensive
picture of skills, knowledge and behaviours that are required from each team member. Individuals engaging in CPD
are not a uniform group they differ in age, clinical and life experiences, level of role within an organisation and what areas
they wish to develop in their practice of physiotherapy. To assess the needs of our participants we will utilise data gathering
from their annual appraisals and have them complete a skills and learning needs assessment form at the start of each CPD
cycle. Information gathered from this will assist and direct development of the CPD programme.
